From sweet sugar to sweet golf: Hawaii Prince Golf Club on Oahu
EWA BEACH, Hawaii - Located on the Ewa Plain of Oahu, Arnold Palmer and partner Ed Seay took what was once just waving fields of sugar cane and turned it into the challenging 27-hole Hawaii Prince Golf Club.
Opened in 1992, the golf course occupies 270 acres, offering stunning views of the rain-carved Waianae Mountains.
As an amenity of the Hawaii Prince Hotel Waikiki, the golf course offers resort guests a challenging, but very playable layout. Located about 15-to-20 minutes from the hotel, there is water on the majority of holes, plenty of mounding to create all sorts of lies, and scores of bunkers to help frame holes and catch wayward shots.
Each of the nine holes - A, B and C – is related, but each also have its own identity. The most challenging combination is Hawaii Prince Golf Club's A/C course with a rating of 134 from the back tees. The least taxing, but not easy, is the A/B course.
Hawaii Prince G.C.'s B course is probably the most straightforward nine with the least amount of water, but it also has features tree-lined fairways and ends with a bang. The last hole on the B Course is a 440-yard par 4 with water left of a small fairway and right of the green. It might be the most difficult hole on all three golf courses.
