Golf Digest lauds Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa in Poipu, and Kauai Marriott Resort & Beach Club in Lihue
A pair of Kauai golf resorts have been named to the 2009 Golf Digest magazine's biennial ranking of the "75 Best Golf Resorts in North America."
The Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa in Poipu jumped from No. 32 in 2007 to No. 16 on the magazine's list this year, while Kauai Marriott Resort & Beach Club in Lihue ranked No. 60, the same number it registered in 2007.
Among the Grand Hyatt's amenities is the Robert Trent Jones Jr.-designed Poipu Bay Golf Course, which hosted the PGA Grand Slam of Golf from 1994-2000. Guests at the resort can also enjoy the Anara Spa, Pacific Ocean views, beaches, restaurants and open air architecture.
The Kauai Marriott Resort & Beach Club is home of Kauai Lagoons Golf Club's Kiele Course and Mokihana Course. Designed by Jack Nicklaus, this 36-hole facility is one of the resort's favorite guest amenities, which also include a family-friendly beach setting, 26,000-square-foot swimming pool (the largest single-level pool in the state), and oceanfront dining. The resort is also undergoing a $50 million renovation scheduled for completion in the fall of 2009.
A third Kauai resort, Princeville property, was ranked No. 23 in 2007 but was not included this year because portions of the Princeville Resort area - the hotel and the 27-hole Makai Golf Course - have been closed since last fall for renovations. The top-ranked Prince Golf Course has remained open.
